The Ultimate Email Marketing Strategy in 8 Steps

Email marketing was already old before social media marketing came of age. It's a testimony to the efficacy of this mode that this continues to be an important channel for millions of small businesses. Email marketing lists are considered priceless and businesses go to great lengths to develop and maintain them for two reasons: sales and more sales!

Here are 8 small Business E-mail Marketing Ideas that will drive qualified, In-The-Mood_To-Buy Traffic to a Company´s Website.

1. Make the sign-up process easy. Place a sign-up box high on the company's website and add a link to the email-marketing signup page on the organization's social media profiles. This can serve to drip feed a steady list of new prospects.

2. Grab the reader’s attention from the subject line. Start with a compelling proposition: a teaser, giveaway or discount. Try to hook readers from the beginning so they'll read till the end. Oh, and do this so the email isn't snagged by the spam filters.

3. Stay compliant. Stay on the right side of the email service providers. Use the good programs on the market and know the difference between a “hard bounce" (the message won't be delivered because of a problem with the email address) and a “soft bounce (the message hasn't been delivered yet but might be later on).

4. Develop the audience. What sources are generating the most responsive audience members, the kind who open, read and click on the links of newsletter? Work further on those sources to build the company's email newsletter list. Try a double opt-in process since it ensures that the subscriber truly wants to read the content and the newsletter will go to a working email address.

5. Use best practices. The most effective calls-to-action go above "the fold," the area of the message that shows up on a computer screen, without a user needing to scroll down. Also emails without a lot of images generate a higher return on investment. (And for yourself, only use programs where you can measure the outcome of the email marketing).

6. Be brief. Test and tweak until arriving at a satisfactory combination of format, structure and tone. Readers might just scan an email newsletter. Pack in words with special meaning and use subheadings.

7. Keep the communication going. Judiciously use automated replies. Auto-replies are time-savers, providing useful information, nudging readers toward downloads, reminding them about freebies -- all while generating information on subscriber behavior. Service providers range from MailChimp and aWeber to the more advanced and feature rich such as 1ShoppingCart and Infusionsoft. I personally use MailChimp but If i make the choice of an "e-mail marketing program" I do love 1ShoppingCart for its all-in-one customer-relationship-management, email and ecommerce solution provided with ample customer support.

8. Trial and Error... Check the analytics and continue with whats working and change if not. Trial and error is a fundamental method of solving problems. It is characterised by repeated, varied attempts which are continued until success, and you will get the best strategy for your Business.

Top Tips To Grow Your Email List

You may have already noticed that your website visitors aren’t automatically going to sign up for your list just because you have an opt-in box in your sidebar.

Marketers are beginning to face the realities of an online environment that’s oversaturated with generic, low-value offers:
  • “Click here to receive my newsletter.”
  • “Join our list.”
  • “Enter your email and you’ll receive weekly updates.”
Opt-in incentives need to be more enticing and more valuable, and this value needs to be clear. Your opt-in links and sign-up boxes need to be obvious, without being pushy or distracting. An opt-in box isn’t enough; you need to incorporate sign-ups into all of your content marketing and social media strategies.
Following are 50 proven ways to entice and attract new subscribers in order to grow your email list.
1. Add a lightbox form to your site: One company experienced a 99% increase in subscriber growth after adding a pop-over opt-in form.
2. Create an amazing, value-packed opt-in incentive: A 1-page report just won’t cut it anymore; try a full-length eBook or white paper.
3. Host a free webinar, and make signing up a requirement for registration.
4. Offer the webinar recording as an opt-in incentive: Make signing up a requirement for downloading or viewing the recording.
5. Create multiple offers on your site to improve your segmentation: Offer several different opt-in incentives for different segments of your audience. This will increase the number of people who sign up, and improve the relevance of the emails you send to your subscribers.
6. Add a call to action at the end of your videos on YouTube and on your OVP as for example the Screen9 OVP.
7. Link to an old newsletter on social media: Show your fans and followers what they’re missing out on by not subscribing to your emails.
8. Offer an exclusive subscriber-only discount and promote it on social media.
9. Mention an influential Twitter TWTR +1.92%user in your newsletter, and then tweet about it: Hopefully that influencer will then retweet it to his or her followers. If your company don't have a twitter account - Make One!
10. Amazing blog content + clear call to action = massive email list (source: BufferSocial) If you don't have a blog - Start One!
11. Include a subscriber testimonial alongside your opt-in box.
12. Add a sign-up form to your Facebook Page. If you Don't have a Facebook page - Make One!
13. Mention the benefit of joining your list: Make it clear what’s ‘in it for them’.
14. Hold a contest, and make joining your list a contest requirement.
15. Make your opt-in box a feature, not an add-on: Don’t hide your opt-in box in your sidebar…put it in a prominent place so your visitors can’t miss it.
16. Collect emails at offline events like tradeshows: Hold an on-site contest and make providing an email a contest requirement.
17. Include a call to action to join your list in your guest post author bios.
18. Cross-promote with a complimentary business in your niche: Agree to promote each other’s newsletters.
19. Offer must-have content via your newsletter: Be sure to offer exclusive, ‘hot’ content in your newsletter, and then let your social media audience know about it.
20. Ask your social media followers to join: Asking nicely never hurts!
21. Ask for as little info as possible: Include as few fields as possible on your sign-up form. This will increase the chances of someone actually signing up.
22. Be regular in how often you send out emails to your list: When people see that you regularly send out great content, they’re more likely to recommend your emails to their friends and colleagues.
23. Use a sponsor offer to entice people to join your list: If you offer advertising on your site, kill two birds with one stone…Promote a sponsor offer (like a discount or giveaway) in your newsletter, and let your followers and website visitors know about it.
24. Use a call to action after blog posts: Using a plugin like WordPress Calls to Action can help with this.
25. Offer an email course: Offer a multi-day email course like ’10 days to rock hard abs’.
26. Add a QR code to offline media like business cards and tradeshow posters.
27. Use a plugin like WP-TopBar to show a special opt-in message at the top (or bottom) of every page of your site.
28. Make your homepage all about the opt-in: Your homepage likely gets more traffic than the rest of your site, so make sure you showcase your sign up form in a prominent place.
29. Use the new Facebook call to action button to drive email sign-ups: According to Marketing Land, using this button has increased conversions for Dollar Shave Club by 2.5x.
30. Offer transparent segmenting: Let your subscribers choose what types of content they want to receive from you.
31. Create opt-in landing pages for social media referral traffic.
32. Include an opt-in radio button (checkbox) on your website’s contact form and About Us page.
33. Offer customers a discount on their next purchase with email sign-up.
34. Provide social proof alongside your opt-in box: “Join the # subscribers who already enjoy this newsletter”.
35. Incorporate social sharing buttons alongside your newsletter content, not just at the top or side of your site.
36. Gate some of your content: Show excerpts of this content, and then require email sign-up in order to view the whole article.
37. Offer PDF versions of popular blog content in exchange for email sign-up.
38. Provide your credentials when asking for opt-ins: What qualifies you as an expert in your field? Why should people trust you?
39. Offer flash discounts for new subscribers: This is a common tactic used by online fashion retailers. Offer a % discount for new, first-time subscribers.
40. Offer bonus information at the end of popular blog posts with email sign-up: For instance, if you have a blog post of the Top 10 Ways to Find New Clients, offer an additional 10 tips with email sign-up.
41. Offer the first 50, 100, 200, etc. subscribers a bonus gift or discount, and promote this offer to your social media followers.
42. Be relatable: Let potential subscribers know you’re a real person, not a nameless, faceless brand. This will instill trust and increase the likelihood they’ll hand over their email.
43. Make the sign-up as quick and painless as possible: Use a sign-up form rather than a link to a sign-up form, wherever possible. Every additional step you incorporate into the process is one more chance to lose your subscriber.
44. Add a sign-up radio box if you require blog commenters to sign in: This is risky as it may detract some visitors from commenting, but the payoff may be worth it.
45. Give potential subscribers a sneak peek of what they’ll be getting: Offer a sample newsletter or a screenshot of a typical email you send to subscribers.
46. Add an opt-in radio box in your e-commerce checkout.
47. Let potential subscribers know exactly what they’ll be getting and how often they’ll be getting it.
48. Ask…again and again: Buffer doubled their email list in 30 days by adding 9 additional opportunities to sign up. Before, they asked for sign-ups in a slideup form; after they also asked for it in a HelloBar, on their homepage, in a postscript, in their sidebar, on Twitter, on their SlideShares, on Facebook and Qzzr.
49. Include an anti-spam policy: Assure potential subscribers you’ll only send relevant info, and will never sell or share their personal info.
50. Run a survey, and gate the results: Pull the results together, add some graphs and charts, and then release it to your audience…with email sign up, of course!
...and remember that you need to be active on your social media!
Facebook is great to update every or every second day, Information, Inspiration or education... Twitter needs to be updated at least once a day (could be small things, out with customers, at the XX exhibition, at a congress doing xxx, At the Office with great colleagues, preparing for ..., a thanks to someone and so on.... When It comes to blogging, It could be time consuming and you need to blog quite often, I would say 3-7 days a week depending on the purpose, but the Very Great thing with blog-posts is that you when you are writing your newsletters can use the blog-posts to link to as extra information.

Your Guide To Building An Email List From Scratch

If you’re running an online business, brick-and-mortar small business, or ANY kind of business, you NEED a way to stay in touch with your prospects and customers. And since every single person in the world has an email address, building an email list is one of the cheapest, most cost-effective solution for doing that.

When’s the best time to get started?

Right now. Don’t wait for a “bribe.” Don’t wait for things to look perfect. Start building your email list today.

So If you haven’t yet started building an email list (but know you need to), this article is for you. You may have heard that a strong email list is one of the most valuable assets you can have, but when you’re starting from scratch, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. This is partly because many business owners have a hard time envisioning the long-term payoff for the hard work they need to do now.
If you’re serious about growing your business, building a healthy email list should be one of your top priorities. When it comes down to it, your list is one of the only online assets that you have 100% control over. Having a solid social media presence is absolutely essential, but you’ll always be at the mercy of new and changing algorithms. And achieving high search engine rankings is great too, but again, you’re at the mercy of changing algorithms and updates.
Here below some reasons for why having a solid social media presence is absolutely essential...

  • Increased Brand Recognition
  • Improved brand loyalty
  • More Opportunities to Convert
  • Higher conversion rates
  • Higher Brand Authority
  • Increased Inbound Traffic
  • Decreased Marketing Costs
  • Better Search Engine Rankings
  • Richer Customer Experiences
  • Improved Customer Insights
The longer you wait, the more you have to lose. Social media marketing, when done right, can lead to more customers, more traffic, and more conversions, and it’s here to stay.
Your email list, on the other hand, is yours, free and clear. Using your website and social media to attract visitors and followers, and then encouraging them to sign up for your email list gives you the opportunity to contact your prospects at any point in the future, with any kind of messaging you want; and you’re not bound by search engine rankings or social media algorithms.

Getting Started: The Basics

Sign up with an email marketing service.
Since we’re starting at the beginning, I’m going to assume you haven’t yet chosen an email service provider (ESP). An ESP will provide you with all the tools, templates and services you need to get subscribers, test your campaigns, and manage the day-to-day requirements of your list.
Different email services will use different pricing models, so be sure to choose the one that best suits your list size and expectations for growth. Some ESP’s will charge a flat monthly fee based on list size, while others will charge per number of emails sent.
A good, basic (free) service if you’re just starting out is MailChimp. Other popular options include AWeberGetResponse, and ConstantContact.
Create a compelling offer or asset.
Before people hand over their email address, you’re going to have to offer them something enticing in exchange. This could be a free eBook, access to a Webinar, or the promise of discounts or deals exclusively for your subscribers. You could even repurpose some of your existing blog content and turn it into a guide or resource list. Whatever you decide to offer, just make sure it’s something people will recognize as holding true value!
Create an opt-in form.
Every ESP will give you tools to create an opt-in form for your site. Generally speaking, the less information you ask for (at this initial stage, at least), the better. The more information you ask for, the less likely your prospect is to complete the process. You’ll obviously need to ask for an email address, and I also highly recommended that you ask for a first name so you can personalize your emails. However, asking for any information beyond these two fields can decrease conversion rates significantly without adding much valuable data.
Put the opt-in form on your site.
Placing your form on your site is usually as easy as copying and pasting a snippet of code provided by your email marketing service. Most website owners put their form in their right sidebar, which has been shown as one of the highest-converting locations. However, this certainly isn’t the only option.
According to Derek Halpern of Social Triggers, there are 7 high-converting places you should consider putting it:

  1. In a feature box (see Social Triggers feature box above)
  2. At the top of your sidebar
  3. After each blog post
  4. In your site’s footer
  5. On your About page
  6. In a little bar across the top of your page (If you’re using WordPress, you can download the Attention Grabber plugin for free).
  7. In a popup box
Each placement will perform differently depending on your site, niche and audience, so be sure to test out various locations as you go along.
You’ll also want to make sure you’re giving your new subscribers easy access to that compelling offer you created in #2 above. Typically, this is done by including a download link on the page that subscribers are directed to after confirming their email.
The Fun Part: Getting Subscribers
Now that you’re all set up to starting collecting emails, the fun part begins (when I say ‘fun’, I actually mean ‘hard’). If your site receives a good amount of traffic and you have a truly compelling offer, this shouldn’t be too difficult. However, if you’re like most business owners, you’ll need to look outside your own audience to start building your list.
Following are ways to get targeted subscribers for your new list.
Leverage other people’s lists.
Email marketing strategist Ben Settle suggests offering your services in exchange for a plug on someone else’s list. In his case, he arranged a strategic ‘swap’ with a well-know marketer who had a big list: he wrote 6 press releases in exchange for a few mentions in the marketer’s popular newsletter.
Another way you can leverage someone else’s list is to propose a joint venture. Of course, you won’t be able to offer a plug in your newsletter. However if you already receive some decent website traffic, or have built a presence on social media, you can offer some promotion on these channels.
Incorporate opt-ins into existing forms.
Chances are you already have forms on your site: contact forms, registration forms, quote request forms, contest entry forms, etc. Including an opt-in checkbox on all existing forms can be a great way to collect emails from visitors who are obviously already interested in what you have to offer.
Hold a giveaway.
When done right, contests and giveaways can be a great source of new, targeted leads. This strategy works best if you already have an existing audience on social media, but there are other ways you can attract entrants.
Your best bet will be to give away something that’s valuable to your target market; for instance, a high-value digital asset on a niche topic. You can give away products (we’ve all seen contests where the prize is a free iPad or gift certificates), however this strategy often leads to entrants who are more interested in the money than in what you have to offer.
AppSumo and KingSumo regularly holds giveaways as a way of building their list, and estimates that each one generates an average of $.083 gross profit per subscriber. And their best giveaway results? $6.90 gross profit per new subscriber.
8. Seek out guest blogging opportunities.
Guest blogging is a great strategy for getting high-quality inbound links to your site, increasing your visibility, and of course getting new subscribers for your list. A properly executed guest blogging strategy can yield a strong ROI, and supports your SEO, social media and email marketing efforts simultaneously.
There are a number of strategies you can pursue for your guest blogging including:

  • Getting a regular column on a well known website.
  • One-off contributions to a niche website (which can potentially lead to a regular column).
  • Syndicating your content. Searching for “industry term + syndication” or “industry term + content/blog syndication” may reveal services which you can apply to be a part of.
Most sites that encourage guest posts allow you to link back to your site, either from within your article or in your author bio. Including a link to your offer in your author bio or at the end of your post is a great way to capitalize on the visibility you’re getting through your guest post.
The effort you put into building your email list is one of the best investments you can make online. Having access to the inboxes of targeted prospects means you can continue to build and nurture relationships over time, and become a trusted source of valuable industry knowledge. Then, when it’s time for your prospects to buy, you’ll be the first one who comes to mind.

Solutions for Challenges in Food Sales Online

In Sweden you can order food easy Online and there are many different providers to choose between. For consumers the Top 3 Reasons to shop food Online is because It's Easy, It's Timesaving and the Wide range of products to choose from, but there are still 55% who say that they are Not going to buy any food Online during next year.
Let's look at the challenges in the Industry and what the consumers thinks is a threshold to cross.
In the digital food trade report 2014 from Svensk Digital Handel we can read;
There are some areas that still are seen as challenges in the industry:
  • Inventory management and picking routines
  • Vending presentation
  • Deliveries
  • Delivery times
  • Returns
Moreover, part of the challenge for food sales on the consumer side:
  • Changing consumer behaviour
  • Breaking habits
  • Clamping and feel factor
  • Willingness to pay for delivery
So how can the Online Food Companies solve challenges?Inventory management and picking routines - Why does this not work?
  • Do the staff have the right education?
  • Does the company communicating their message out the right way?
  • Are everyone within the company on the same page?
  • Is there a strategy around this kind of routines?
My answer is - Provide everyone with what they need to do the best job or to feel confident with the products they are buying. Make the picking routines easy for the staff and show how you work to your customers, so that they know what they can expect.
  • Make a video for the staff on how to do it, use QR video codes on every different kind of products with instructions of how to pick the items together.
  • ...and why not Make a video for the webpage on how you are picking for example the vegetables and the other items for the customers, so that they know they will get the best in their delivery from you, they will never have to doubt. In this way you also reduce the "Clamping and feel factor" and leave the customers with the feeling that they not need to feel all the items, they gives you the trust to do it for them.
You can also work with videos on the intranet to
  • Release time
  • Improving communication
  • Improve knowledge of staff
  • Increased sense of community
Present the vending presentation with a video!
Why? Because,
  1. The customers experience more satisfaction after they have seen a video (than pictures and text)
  2. Customers feel more confident and are buying more items as well as more expensive items
  3. More satisfied customers reduces the stress on customer service and reduces the returns
Show the customers how the delivery works. Make a video about the persons who deliver the food... Who Is the persons who deliver the food - Show the importens of their work in the chain. Show Why you have the delivery times you have and what customers can do to make things work better for you. Team build with your customers. Make "video customer cases" to show families that your customers can identify themselves with.
You can also work with video on the website
  • Online marketing on the web and social media
  • SEO the web
  • Branding - Increase the feeling of the Brand
  • Engage visitors in a way you don't with text and pictures

Working with video will make a big difference for your business.

Wish to become a charismatic speaker?

Personally, I am attracted to individuals who know what they want and create the right conditions to fulfill their dreams ...
I love to read and improve my knowledge, I also love to share my experiences and spread the knowledge I have gained. I think it is important to lift other people and that people around me (my partner, kids, family, friends and colleagues) are proud of what they accomplish / achieve in life.
We are all different and different things give us different amounts of energy. I love to speak and I love to listen to great speakers. There is something very speciallt with some of them ... They fill me with a lovely infectious energy.
Have you ever heard a presentation and later realized how attracted you were to the presenter? No, not that kind of attraction. I mean that you felt connected and uplifted while you were listening. You came away feeling happier more energised and with a feeling that you wish to accomplish more. The speaker was so eloquent that you were touched in some way. Even if the presentation was about selling shoes! And yes, yes, yesss anyone who knows me privately also knows that I absolutely love and adore shoes, but you know what I mean...
That quality you experienced is called charisma. Webster defines charisma as “that special spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people.” A charismatic speaker leaves an impression on the audience, large or small, that makes them want to come back for more. It’s just what you want if you are trying to sell or influence a customer. Charisma is not just for selling; the best university professors are often charismatic speakers as well.
We associate charisma with preachers, like Billy Graham, old-time politicians, such as Winston Churchill or people like Anthony "Tony" Robbins who is an American life coach, self-help author and motivational speaker.
Could you become a charismatic speaker? I think the answer is yes! By breaking down charisma into 14 individual qualities (listed here in no particular order), you can attain each quality with a little time and practice:
  1. Charismatic speakers are self-confident and assured. They don’t appear nervous or ill at ease.
  2. Charismatic speakers seem to be enjoying themselves; they are playful, humoroushappy.
  3. Charismatic speakers are lively & energetic people.
  4. Charismatic speakers gives you energy and will leave you with a feeling that you want to accomplish something more. Their energy is contagious.
  5. Charismatic speakers are knowledgeable about their subject.
  6. Charismatic speakers look good, they have a stage presence.
  7. Charismatic speakers speak without stumbling, using full sentences and correct grammar, without “ers” and “uhs.”
  8. Charismatic speakers have an opinion about their subject. They care about it. You can sense their emotion, enthusiasm, and conviction.
  9. Charismatic speakers often live by the fact that shared knowledge is double joy.
  10. Charismatic speakers relate their topic to the broader scheme of things, they are expansive, inspiring, and uplifting.
  11. Charismatic speakers create a strong rapport with their audience, they connect.
  12. Charismatic speakers are positive in outlook, cheerful, and cooperative.
  13. Charismatic speakers are organized; their points are clearly connected and logically follow one another, with an overview at the beginning and a conclusion at the end. They are precise and complete.
  14. Charismatic speakers (genuine ones) are honest, well mannered, patient, fair, and responsible.
By developing these 14 qualities, you too can become a charismatic speaker. You can be that person that audiences feel attracted to and connected with, whose eloquence leaves people uplifted and enlivened. Work at it and you will succeed!
